Release: New Democrat Coalition Action Fund Endorses Sarah McBride for Congress

Caucuses Representing Nearly Every Democrat in the House of Representatives Have Endorsed McBride

Wilmington, DE— Congressional candidate for Delaware’s at-large district and State Senator Sarah McBride has been endorsed by the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund today, following the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Action Fund just last week in her race. The New Democrat Coalition is a solutions-oriented caucus of nearly 100 Members who are focused on cutting through the division to find new, pragmatic solutions to get our Congress and our country back on track to meet the moment.

With this endorsement, McBride has garnered near unanimous support across the entire Democratic caucus, with endorsements from caucuses representing nearly every Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives. McBride has been endorsed by the Equality PAC, the electoral arm of the Congressional Equality Caucus, the single largest caucus of any kind on Capitol Hill and the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, the electoral arm of the largest ideological caucus in the Democratic caucus. Last month, Elect Democratic Women (EDW), the Congressional Member-led committee dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to Congress, announced that they also endorsed McBride.

“Each of these candidates share NewDems’ pragmatic approach to politics and our deep commitment to lowering costs, growing the economy, and strengthening the middle class to improve the lives of hardworking Americans,” said NewDem Chair Congresswoman Annie Kuster in a release announcing McBride’s endorsement along with four other candidates. “As far-right Republicans work to strip Americans of their fundamental freedoms, these women are fighting tooth and nail to ensure everyone has access to the health care they need and the ability to make their own personal, private decisions about their future. NewDems look forward to helping send each of these candidates to Congress in November.”

"I am deeply honored to have the endorsement of the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund,” said McBride. “In Congress, I'll continue Congresswoman Blunt Rochester's impressive record of working alongside NewDems to protect and grow our middle class, fighting to lower prescription drug prices, bringing back American manufacturing, and lowering everyday costs for Delaware families.

“Now more than ever, we need effective leaders who can build bridges to deliver bold Democratic policies. Nearly every bill I've introduced as a legislator has passed with bipartisan support — and, with NewDems' support, I'm excited to run a campaign that unites our party and to serve in Congress in a way that unites our country.”

McBride has been endorsed by several Delaware elected officials including Attorney General Kathy Jennings, State Auditor Lydia York, former Lt. Governor and Attorney General Matt Denn and more than twenty Delaware elected officials, community organizers, labor leaders and community and national advocacy organizations.

ABOUT SARAH MCBRIDE

Sarah McBride represents roughly 50,000 Delawareans in the First State Senate District, which includes parts of Wilmington and Brandywine Hundred. Sarah grew up in Wilmington and has been advocating for her community for decades. Most recently, she served as the national spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ equal rights organization.

When McBride was elected in November 2020, she became the first openly transgender state senator in American history. In just her first term, McBride passed the landmark Healthy Delaware Families Act, providing paid family and medical leave to workers throughout the First State and marking the largest expansion of Delaware's social safety net in decades. She also passed legislation expanding access to health care, requiring mental health and media literacy education in public schools, promoting green technologies, preventing lead poisoning in youth, and protecting workers and families.

McBride currently serves as chair of the Senate Health & Social Services Committee and is a member of the Senate’s Judiciary Committee, Education Committee, Banking, Business, Insurance, and Technology Committee, and Executive Committee.

Sarah married her late husband Andrew Cray in 2014 and is the proud aunt of seven. She is a graduate of Cab Calloway School of the Arts and American University. McBride has taught public policy at the University of Delaware and is the author of the 2018 memoir, “Tomorrow Will Be Different,” which includes a foreword from President Joe Biden.
